Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 March 2026

1. Service Description

tariff.lk (“the Service”) is a free, independent tool that provides Sri Lanka customs tariff code search, import duty estimation, shipment building, exchange rate information, and Value Declaration Form (VDF) export functionality. The Service is provided for informational and reference purposes only.

2. Not Professional Advice

The Service is not a substitute for professional customs brokerage, legal, financial, or tax advice. HS code suggestions provided by the Service are AI-assisted and may not be correct for your specific goods. Users should consult a qualified customs broker or Sri Lanka Customs for definitive classification decisions, especially for high-value shipments or goods with complex regulatory requirements.

3. Data Accuracy

Tariff data displayed on the Service is sourced from the Sri Lanka National Imports Tariff Guide (NITG), published by Sri Lanka Customs, and from Extraordinary Gazette notifications published at documents.gov.lk.

While we strive to keep data current and accurate:

  • Duty rates, Cess, PAL, Excise, VAT, SCL, and SSCL rates may change through gazette notifications at any time, sometimes with immediate effect
  • We cannot guarantee that our data reflects the very latest gazette amendments
  • Duty calculations are estimates based on published rates and may differ from ASYCUDA World assessments
  • Exchange rates are sourced from the official Customs Gazette but the rate applied at the time of actual clearance may differ
  • Import control and licensing requirements (ICL/SLSI) may change without notice

Data source references (gazette numbers, effective dates) are displayed alongside rates where available. Always verify current rates with Sri Lanka Customs or the official tariff page before making import decisions.

4. VDF and Document Exports

The Service may generate Value Declaration Forms (VDF), spreadsheets, and other documents based on data you provide. These exports are for reference and pre-filling purposes only.

  • You are solely responsible for verifying all values, HS codes, and calculations before uploading to ASYCUDA World or submitting to Sri Lanka Customs
  • The declarant's digital signature on a CUSDEC carries legal responsibility under the Customs Ordinance — we bear no such responsibility
  • We are not liable for rejected declarations, incorrect duty assessments, penalties, demurrage charges, or any other costs arising from the use of exported documents

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, tariff.lk and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Financial losses from incorrect duty calculations or classifications
  • Penalties imposed by customs authorities
  • Delays in cargo clearance
  • Loss of business or profit
  • Any damages arising from reliance on information provided by the Service

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

6. Data Sources and Attribution

Tariff data is derived from the following public sources:

  • National Imports Tariff Guide (NITG) 2026 — published by Sri Lanka Customs, Policy, Planning and Research Directorate
  • Extraordinary Gazette notifications — published by the Government of Sri Lanka at documents.gov.lk
  • Weekly exchange rates — from Sri Lanka Customs Gazette under Section 17 of the Customs Ordinance (Chapter 235)

The NITG states: “The National Imports Tariff Guide is only a guide and not a legal document. The legal provisions may be found in Acts and amendments thereon and relevant gazette notifications.” The same applies to data displayed on this Service.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use automated scraping tools to bulk-extract tariff data from the Service
  • Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Present outputs from the Service as official Sri Lanka Customs documentation
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

8. Independent Service

tariff.lk is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Sri Lanka Customs, the Ministry of Finance, UNCTAD, or any government body.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Any disputes arising from the use of this Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
